Obituary for JOYCE R. PAVICIC (Rogers)

Joyce Rogers Pavicic, 90, of Malton Rd., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 21, 2018 at the Eastwood Nursing Center, with her loving family by her side.

Joyce was born December 5,1928 at her grandmother’s house in Palmer to Russell and Lila (Hill) Rogers, and lived in Negaunee (Cornish Town).

She attended Negaunee schools then moved to Detroit in 1945 and worked at M.T. Rubber toward the end of World War II. She then moved to California in 1952 where she met and married her husband John Mike Pavicic. They were married for 51 years. Joyce worked for Safeway Stores in California for 35 years as a checker, book keeper, trainer and retired in 1981. She also attended night school and received a diploma from Berlitz School of Languages.

Joyce enjoyed the horse races at Santa Anita Park when her and her husband lived in Arcadia California, and then later after moving to Redondo Beach, she loved daily walks on the Strand with her many friends. She also enjoyed going to Las Vegas and traveling back to Michigan to visit family. She loved to crochet and made beautiful slippers she gave to all her family and friends. In her later years, she often made all kinds of cookies to give out to family and friends and almost everyone else she knew!

Joyce was very much a social butterfly and made friends easily - her compassion and generosity for others was always apparent. She will be greatly missed by many.

Surviving is her daughter, Joni (Phil) Gleason of Ishpeming; a son, John Pavicic of Gwinn; 5 granddaughters: Jacquelyn (John) Laitala of Appleton WI, Jamie (Derrick) Magnuson of Ishpeming, Christine (Kyle) Scott of San Dimas, Victoria & Rianne Pavicic of Lake Elsonore, Ca.; one grandson, Derek (Tracy) Larson of Pheonixville, PA.; two great granddaughters, Lyn & Kasey Magnuson of Ishpeming; one great grandson, Haiden Pavicic of Lake Elsinore, Ca.; a sister, Darlene Nelson of Ishpeming, two step-grandchildren, Ryan (Annette) Gleason of Negaunee and Taryn Gleason of Ishpeming; many nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Dennis (Tanja) Stanaway of Ishpeming who tended to her regularly with visits and outings. Joyce also leaves behind many close friends all across the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Pavicic; parents, Russell & Lila Rogers; grandparents Geo & Minnie Rogers; grandmother, Senia Wournenen; three sisters: Shirley Doucette, Joan Stanaway and Marilyn Gidlund; a nephew, Buzz Doucette, and a special friend Manual Sanchez.

Honoring Joyce’s wishes, memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
